Earning Sheffield its first Michelin star in over a decade in 2026, Jöro has made a triumphant move to its new home in an old paper mill in Oughtibridge. Alongside the main dining room, the venue features a laid-back outdoor terrace serving a summer menu straight off their Big Green Egg barbecue. The vibe out here is intentionally relaxed—a welcoming contrast to the formal tasting menu inside—offering reasonable prices, an impressive drinks list, and top-tier service.

Owners Stacey and Luke have curated a bar snack menu full of hits. Highlights include melt-in-your-mouth croquettes (choose between spinach and goat’s cheese or rich Ibérico ham, both equally delicious), thinly sliced Iberian salchichón, and fresh spongy sourdough from the city’s renowned bakery Crumb, served alongside O-Med olive oil and aged balsamic.

For the main event

The blow-torched North Sea mackerel steals the show, paired with a clever satay sauce crafted from sunflower seeds rather than peanuts.

The barbecued woodland pork chop is a close second—robust and well-rounded with a smoky Braeburn apple barbecue sauce, hot honey, and grain mustard.

Other standout meat dishes include a tender, hot-smoked Yorkshire beef cheek served with a chimichurri.

And a classic hot dog featuring R&J Yorkshire butchers’ sausage topped with none other than the finest Heinz ketchup, French’s mustard, and crispy onions. Delicious.

Just when you think things couldn’t get any better, onto the desserts. Baked to order, the warm Bullion chocolate & miso cookies were quite frankly out of this world, a generous batch of six rich, soft cookies that could easily rival any cookie baked between Newcastle and London. Their sticky toffee pudding comes with a surplus of miso-butterscotch sauce (perfect for dipping cookies). I know a restaurant means business when crème fraîche is the chosen partner for a sticky toffee — for me, a perfect choice to cut through the sweet fluffy sponge.

To finish the evening, the espressotini topped with roasted matcha and mirin foam is a must-try, an unusual-sounding topping; however, it was perfectly balanced, velvety, sublime.

I shall be returning to Jöro with high expectations. Book a table.
