A Sheffield fishmonger turned top-tier lunch spot, J.H. Mann is an absolute gem. If you can bag a seat here, you’re in for a treat. Positioned perfectly on Sharrow Vale Road, this local institution is packed with a marvellous selection of fresh fish and seafood—available to take away or sit in and enjoy.

It’s BYOB (Bring Your Own Bottle)—and Bring Your Own Bread too of course! Head to StarmoreBoss bottle shop just two doors down to grab a special bottle of wine or something to match the occasion. Then choose what takes your fancy fresh off the ice counter or select from the blackboard menu behind you. If you get a little stuck deciding—and trust me it’s a tough call—the fishmonger will offer his expert advice (with a thick dollop of the finest Yorkshire accent). Choose from platter selections or individual dishes, each served with carefully paired toppings and sauces.

What We Ordered

Swordfish Loins with Crab Dahl

Oh my this dahl was nothing short of sensational—creamy and packed full of punch, yet delicately spiced so as not to overpower the swordfish. Finished with a light sprinkling of chilli flakes and fresh herbs.

Seared Pink Tuna Steak

Thick, marbled slices of gently seared, tender tuna served over salty samphire. The dish was elevated by a homemade drizzled chilli oil packed with currants, crispy garlic, and shallots. The slices literally melt in your mouth.

Pan-Fried Seabass in Café de Paris Sauce

Crispy-skinned seabass served in a rich, herb-and-spice butter sauce, topped with fresh samphire and a fine dice of sweet onion. This dish delivered on every single front.

Steaming Mussels & Clams

Served in a rich white wine sauce that spoke for itself. It was far too good to leave behind and proved ideal for dunking your own bread (DYOB).

At just £30 per head, the generous portions deliver exceptional value for money. It’s a uniquely brilliant lunch experience that showcases just how versatile seafood can be when paired with bold, imaginative flavours.
